As I understand it, bananas contain natural beta-blockers.

Bananas claim to have a calming influence because of the B-vitamins. But you'd probably get more "Bees" in a capsule.

OTOH, bananas also contain tryptophan, which helps you sleep, but then so does turkey. I'll have turkey, thanks.

I have been told that it is the potassium that is the active ingredient.

Correct, Sean. I tried it before an audition once, having heard about it and taking advantage of the sudden opportunity to test this curious theory, and it definitley did not work :(

It seems to lend itself to reason that maybe the banana could have a small effect, but some people are more nervous than others. I've had auditions where I don't think eating the whole tree would have helped, but it probably could have done something about the nerves. To say that "you will not get nervous!" is a pretty ridiculous claim.

It's true that bananas contain potassium, but if that is what you are after, a potato has more.

I believe that they do work. They have the Beta Blockers and everything else that was mentioned above, which certainly help, but there's also one key ingredient, and that is the placebo affect. As long as you believe it works, it does! But I guess this thread just ruined whatever placebo affect there was

Telling politically incorrect jokes may or may not help in auditions, but it certainly makes me feel better, anyway.

Well....

As you can see from my avatar, I find that being a banana makes me less nervous. :D

Although I do worry someone might eat me....
