Observation:
When Steve Jobs was alive, the iTunes download webpage featured The Beatles.
Now, Taylor Swift is the featured artist when you go to download iTunes.

The clockwork spring on my f tuba broke at band practice tonight. Lucky for me my stand mate is the master tuba builder at Alexander. It'll be done in time for lunch tomorrow.

Yes indeed, Joe, it truly was (except when I was an assistant principal). There were many, many good times and good schools during my run.

Thanks for the congrats, brother Grim.

Played "Yakety Sax" on the Conn 2J at a work function today, where all the kids ran around and tried to find where the executive director was hiding.

I listened to numerous recordings beforehand and found two different transcriptions. Not a one was the same. Between the bended notes, ghosted notes, and flat out different notes, everyone seems to have their own take on this. The versions that were too fast (including a later one by BC himself) just lost the whole jovial character of the piece. Today, I made it my own ;)

As long as you can play Yakety Sax on any of them, you are good to go.

I like this OK, though...
+1! "Jump, Jive 'n Wail" has been a staple in our concert band folders for thirteen years now! I don't think we've EVER played "Yakety Sax".

When I listen to music with lyrics (pop, rock, etc.), I almost NEVER listen to the lyrics, and have a lot of trouble hearing/learning the words unless I really make an effort. It might as well be in another language, I just don't hear it.

This means there are songs I've listened to many times, for years and years and years that I have NO clue what the words are. I usually am just listening for the music, and hear the singing as a melodic line, but not really the actual text, and certainly not the underlying meaning.

Some people are "tone deaf," I guess I'm "lyrics deaf."

I am constantly shocked when I go to a website and actually read the lyrics. Happened recently when my daughter scolded me for allowing her daughter to listen to a song that I thought was rather benign. After reading the lyrics, she was right. My granddaughter had no business hearing that.

Did my first concert with my German band yesterday and am getting ready to do two more today. The first parade starts at 0600 today, which is also when they start pouring the beers. Could be a long day.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?
