That happened to me once. The good news is the seller has never logged in on the site again.

If, when you set up your PayPal payment, you selected that it was for "goods" then you can get your money back through them.

That's just plain WRONG!
No matter what the circumstances are that the seller can't get the item shipped right away,
he should at least send an email, PM or something!

Track the seller down, figure out his\ her mailing address, ad have a fellow TubeNetter that lives close by to the seller drive out and egg their house. It's your only option.

I had thought of posting a thread like this following my recent attempt to buy a tuba from a member here.
I had offered the asking price and offered to pay him to pack the tuba asked for suggestions in this forum for packing methods and had offered to pay a bonus once the the tuba arrived safely thanks to his packing.
I called in a favour with a freight company and was ready to go collect from the seller all I needed was a PayPal invoice from him with the model and serial number on it both for customs and my protection.
The invoice has never come I have asked for it several times and received various excuses and promises to send it.
Luckily I have not sent any money and am only out a favour and the disappointment of not having a new toy.
My seller has other more expensive items for sale on the board at the moment my best advice to anyone not dealing with a site sponsor or a member they know would be to pay via PayPal after the seller has sent a detailed payment request as you will have paypals protection and your credit cards protection as well.
I have sometimes offered a 5% bonus to cover the paypal costs for vendors to agree to use PayPal.
I feel slightly better for sharing and to answer the OP's question if you have tried to contact your seller since paying and have not had an answer then start a PayPal dispute now as this will either get your money back or the goods shipped.

I am hopeful that he is not injured or otherwise disabled and simply, woefully irresponsible.
I have emailed and pm'd him to no avail .
Thru this post , I have learned of another buyer in the same situation as I.
His profile does not include a location so the egging idea won't work-
He currently has items listed for sale, so buyers beware . I have paid via PayPal and will work that system for the return of my money, only the cost of a used mouthpiece-

Note that Paypal buyer protection only applies to payments for goods or services. There is NO buyer protection for payments sent as "gifts."

If PayPal gives you grief based on how the transaction was set up, you should also dispute the charge on the credit card you used to make the PayPal payment.

+1 on that.

In my opinion, ALWAYS make paypal payments via credit card for this exact reason.

And since misery loves company, here's my story:

The last item I purchased here on tubenet went down almost exactly like the transaction at the heart of this original post: item was advertised, we traded a couple emails and made a deal, I paid via paypal immediately, got an initial "thanks, I'll get it out" email and then nothing for nearly a month and a half. I sent PMs and emailed at least once a week to ask about it at both the seller's personal and professional email addresses. I finally wrote to the seller stating that I had no further recourse but open a dispute with paypal and eventually my cc company. The very next day the item showed up. I do really like the item, but had I know what a PITA it would have been to receive, I'd have paid twice as much and ordered a new one from the manufacturer in Europe.

Bottom line is that if you sell something and get paid for it, ship it out quickly! These days you don't even have to leave your house to do this! Postage is able to be purchased and printed online and driver pickup can be arranged (often for free) from most major carriers.

I believe in overcommunicating slightly.

When I sell a mouthpiece or a tuba I send out an email or PM every time there is a significant development (like having shipped it out, and here is a tracking number) because I don't want to have to make someone email me to find out where things stand. I don't sell stuff for a living so it is just not that much effort to keep people proactively informed about things.

Bottom line is that this is tubenet, and in a way we all know each other or have immediate direct access to just about anyone in the global tuba community. You just don't dare excrement that bed.
