Musical moments your friends and family just wouldn't get
So I was emptying the boss's dishwasher while listening to Pandora, to an electronic song I can only describe as "jaunty Frankenstein". I take out a wine glass, accidentally bump it against a plastic cup, and at just the right point in the song hear the glass vibrate a perfectly off tune fifth to the key of the tune. I smiled like an idiot and thought "it's such a shame no one I know would appreciate this".

Decades ago at an outdoor community band concert I played, one of the numbers was a medley of sea shanties. It was also a cicada year. I have the tape. You got it: we started the intro. When we hit the first 6/8 theme, the cicadas ramped up and provided the sea sound effects. As it ended and transitioned in 2/4 to the next shanty, the cicadas stopped. When we started the next 6/8 shanty, the cicadas started up again. This happened throughout the entire piece, and by the end I was laughing so hard I could hardly play.

A fine alto sax player played a eatery near here with a large cage of birds at the far end on the room. The sax man was very good and the birds sang along with most all his sax solos. He found ways to play that complimented the bird's chirping which made the birds even happier.
