El Paso, Tx?

Post by Bombardonier »

I have a potential employment opportunity coming up in El Paso, Tx...but have never lived in the SW USA. I have visited Tucson (and dryer...hotter areas of CA)...but only for short stints. Although I know that the weather and dryness take some acclimation, I have more concerns about the area in relation to moving my family (including wife and four children). All of the stereotypes I have heard are negative. I already know the stereotypes (heard them my whole life). What I am interested in knowing (from someone who lives there...has lived there...lives close to there...or has visited a number of times) is the potential for positive experiences and secure family life. If you have specific recommendations...great...but given the uncertain nature of the situation, general statements and feedback would also be appreciated.

That study lists both Baltimore and NYC as third safest. Since both of these cities have a LOT of violent crime, one has to wonder whether their figures are valid.

Baltimore is listed as second worst, NYC third safest.

Detroit is worst, Memphis is third worst.

Read the thing again and note how they are sorted.

Also note that these are probably 'per capita' figures. The percentage doesn't have to be very high to mean 'lots of murders'.

You got that right! Almost as bad as some of the "scholarly" writing out there

I was born in El Paso and lived there until I graduated HS. I still have family there and visit there regularly. Majority of ELP is a pretty safe town, but as with all cities there are some areas that are more questionable than others. Where are you looking to live? You can email me and ask questions.
