Re: Older Yamaha, with clocksprings
I asked the seller about it & he told me "sorry for the typo, it's a Miraphone"
Now I consider a "typo" a misspelled word........NOT purposely listing it as
something that it clearly is NOT
btw, does this even resemble a Miraphone at all?

If you are talking about the link I posted... it's a B & S/VMI stencil. The horn actually looks more like an Asian clone except for the 'S' links.TubaMusikMann wrote:I asked the seller about it & he told me "sorry for the typo, it's a Miraphone"

The link at the top of this thread is an obvious Miraphone/Miraphone.

Since I inquired about this ebay listing, the seller has now changed it to a Miraphone &The link at the top of this thread is an obvious Miraphone/Miraphone.
has listed it as an F tuba??? Dan, when did Miraphone use clocksprings?
This looks more like an Alexander to me......
And surely this can't be an F tuba?

Re: Older Yamaha, with clocksprings
I don't think it can be an F tuba unless the scale is very small and totally unlike anything I've ever come across. I think it is a Mirafone/Miraphone BBb but could be a 184, 185, or 186. It's really difficult to tell without a size comparison. Judging from the other errors in the listing... the seller probably wouldn't have the sense to measure the bore. You might ask the seller to measure the diameter of the bell. Generally... 14" + a dab = 184. 15" + a dab =185. 16" + a dab = 186.TubaMusikMann wrote:Since I inquired about this ebay listing, the seller has now changed it to a Miraphone &The link at the top of this thread is an obvious Miraphone/Miraphone.

Mirafone/Miraphone has offered clock-springs all along but it's unusual to see them in the US. I think one might still be able to buy them as an option.

Re: Older Yamaha, with clocksprings
I'm with bloke. It's nothing but a picture. It's interesting to look at and try to figure out what the tuba in the picture is or was, but I bet whatever it is has never been in the seller's possession. He says it's one thing, gets questioned and then says it's something else even less plausible (f)? He's making it up as he goes along.
