Sounds like any 5/4 coming out of Germany is getting high praise, be it MW or Miraphone.
Not to commandeer the post in any way, but has anyone had any negative experiences with some of the newer model instruments from either a playability or workmanship standpoint?

I can't speak for the majority of the horns listed here but the one bruckner I played was absolutely fantastic and the several PT-6 horns that I've had in my hands were awesome. I'm interested in trying out one of the gronitz offerings but have yet to ever see one in person.

Imho, the Miraphones are not that different size-wise to the 2000...
5/4: Thor, PT6, 163, Kanstul Grand

Been to a MW/B&S exhibition lately, and I hope this model wasn't posted here yet just because it is new and people are still unfamiliar with it. The B&S MRP CC was so impressive.. It's a tad bit wider than the PT6, less than the Neptune but sure as hell mixes the advantages of both. The 1293 didn't do it for me. The Thor is an amazing player but something didn't work out for me. I felt like it lacked some kind of depth, but I guess it's just me not being used to the response.

My personal horn is a 1291. It lacks in tuning for the pedals, but has great intonation and sound. The BBb has some more problems than the CC but both are great horns!

Honestly, without spending $40k for a Yamayork, the best horn on the market is the Cooley Nirchl. For more info, email me privately. Good luck on your search.

Re: What are the hot tubas right now?
I played several examples of this tuba at TMEA this year and initially I was very excited to try them out, but after about 10 minutes with each of the horns I couldn't get around the stuffiness in the low register on them. They need some more work before they slap a $12k price on it.winston wrote:Whats the word on the street for the Adams CC tubas from the Netherlands?

Re: What are the hot tubas right now?
That was my first thought as well but the OP clearly stated in his post that he didn't want something "Yorkbrunner big" which would include the Nirschl IMO. Sean, if you can go that extra step and take a horn like the Nirschl York copy into consideration, you won't be disappointed. I use mine for almost everything, they are really great horns.tclements wrote:Honestly, without spending $40k for a Yamayork, the best horn on the market is the Cooley Nirchl. Re: What are the hot tubas right now?
I own a Kanstul 5490 Grand CC and HIGHLY recommend considering this one or at least giving it a try. It is extremely easy to play and has a really huge sound without having to goose it.
For the price, I recommend anyone giving it at least a test.
If anyone has more questions, you can email me as I know these horns are kind of hard to find. I'm located in Chicago and I'd let anyone play-test it for a beer and a good hang!

Didn't think a harmless 3 post conversation would be deemed "trolling" on a Forum that I think is all about community as much as it is advice.bloke wrote:troll...??
Have seen similar posts go on for pages on pages without being deemed "trolling." Guess I'll have to be more careful next time.

It's not trolling. It's just me and one of my all time best students with a little friendly banter, temporarily taking the thread off topic like what happens here on a daily basis in several posts. OK, so what 5/4 tubas are hot now?
