Just got a UPS shipment from San Fran. Interestingly it came through the IL/IN terminal. Why would a shipment from San Fran to Atlanta go through Chicago? UPS must have plenty of money to buy fuel. That's an extra 450 miles.

UPS ground from west of Salt Lake City to points east of the Mississippi tend to ride a train (multi-modal) to Chicago, then goes on from there. East to west tends to take a train to Salt Lake City and branch out from there. Less diesel...

That makes sense. I never thought about a train. I've never even seen a big brown train car.
