Re: How do you pronounce "cimbasso"?
Hm, I thought it would be obvious, but it never occurred to me that the stress could be on the first syllable? In this version from what sounds like a native speaker http://www.forvo.com/word/cimbasso/, I hear the stress on the second syllable, albeit made slightly ambiguous by tonal differences that don't translate exactly to English pronunciation.tclements wrote:CHIM-bah-so

+1. The 'C' in 'cimbasso' is just like the one in 'cello'.tclements wrote:CHIM-bah-so
Anyway... I own one and I'll call it whatever I want!

I always just called it a "SIM-bah-so". I just figured the C made an S-like sound since it doesn't have an H next to it.tclements wrote:CHIM-bah-so

If I learned this correctly from all of those Sunday dinners at Nonna's house, the "i" gives the "c" a "ch-" sound. The double "s" puts the emphasis on the second syllable.
