Thanks for the link. I was able to catch the last half of the concert. Excellent! Good sound, good balance.
I noticed something behind the heads of some of the reed players that resemble head-rests. I've never seen these before. I assume they're for protecting their ears since they're sitting in front of the trombones. Is that correct?
Thanks.

Yes that's correct. It is great stuff, that actually works very well, which is invented by Swedish trumpet player Urban Eriksson. The thing is called Hearwig and used by many orchestras here. Their homepage is: www.hearwig.comRick F wrote:...I assume they're for protecting their ears since they're sitting in front of the trombones. Is that correct?...
and here is a .pdf list with examples of orchestras that use these ear protectors.

Thanks John. Very interesting. Looks pretty expensive though.

I do not know how much. However, they are very well made so they may be a bit expensive. But, if you can save even one persons hearing then it is worth the price. I can assure you that there is a mile wide difference between these protectors and the usual plexiglass screens, that instead merely works as amplifiers, that are used in so many places.Rick F wrote:Thanks John.
