Anybody done this - I suspect it'll be a lot of low growling - but interested in Comments. Also just been given the ophicleide part for the overture to Midsummer's NIght Dream - yikes!
Composers shouldn't think too much -- it interferes with their plagiarism.

I cannot speak to, "Toward the Unknown Region", though I have heard it and like it very much. However, my advice on the "Midsummer Nights Dream" is to play it on a small Eb or F tuba. You will approximate the sound of the ophicleide more closely and have a better center on your sound in the ophicleide range.
