Buying euphoniums online, ebay or things like tubenet.

I am in the market for a euphonium, and can't seem to find one on tubenet that I like. Ebay goes pretty high on good euphs, and I was wonderin if there are any websites similar to tubenet where you can see if individuals are sellin euphs.

Call the tuba stores and see what they have. You might be surprised. They don't always list everything they have on the web.

If you do see one listed on Tubenet, I would suggest a little more discretion than you have been showing about specific instruments for sale. If I'm trying to sell something, I'm not really sure I want one of my potential buyers very publicly comparing it to someone else's that is also for sale. You have gotten all the advice there is one what brands are good and what instruments might be good for you. Next time you see something you might like, send the seller a private message or email, and make him an offer.

After you've bought the instrument, you can then talk about it all you want.

Buying a used instrument is the best way to get top quality in your price range, but it requires patience. I had to wait several years for a big tuba that was both playable and affordable, and when it appeared, I had to move immediately to get it. That's the way it is for the good stuff. You won't have to wait that long unless you get too picky. Remember that the consensus from your ealier thread was that all the brands you were considering would be plenty good for someone in your situation.

I do see a Yamaha 642S and a Willson 2900S on ebay in the price range you mentioned at the outset. If these prices are too high, then you perhaps need to set your sights a bit lower and exercise some patience.

Dave, before you pass judgment on that advice, you should understand that our young poster has been quite active asking about all sorts of brands and outlets over the last couple of weeks. If he will read those threads, he will know what brands are appropriate for him to consider in his budget, and where to go looking. Many other people buy from the sources that seem to be frustrating him, so perhaps he needs help with his approach. Sometimes we answer a question with advice because we believe it's the shortest path to the desired conclusion.
