I couldn't reply to the Sponsors post, but I wanted to give a shout-out to Tom McG for some outstanding playing on the new Chinese bigger CC. Great work, Tom!

Remember, tubas don't kill people - people kill people..
um, I meant tubas don't play tubas, people play tubas.
And some of those people play tubas at auditions.
And sometimes there is a winner at the auditions.
And the winner has to play at least 1 or 2 tubas.
And sometimes those tubas are made in China.
And sometimes there are auditions IN China, for tuba players.
And there are also some fine Chinese tuba players.
Some of them probably even came from China.
And they play tubas..

Either way, congrats to Tom McG for a job well done, and best wishes to Mack Brass in their new endeavor!

Yes, the tuba sounds good and it is clearly copied after the PT6P, but without a direct back-to-back play against each other, it just sounds like a tuba. Just like whenever I hear other tubas - like that York copy by Yamaha. It sounds well and good, but without anything to compare it to, like the original Yorks, it just sounds like a tuba.

Um ... looks to me like the OP is praising the quality of the playing, he's not opining on the relative merits of the horn.

Regarding the comparison with an actual PT-6, that would certainly be interesting and useful to Tom, but would not likely be useful in a YouTube video. Correction -- it would NOT be useful in a YouTube video. I'm also not sure how useful that's going to be, anyway. When people are considering one of these tubas, is the decision between a PT-6 and a clone PT-6? Or is the decision between some other $5,000 CC tuba and a clone PT-6? I would guess it's the latter more than the former.

Seems like a lot of tuba for the money. Will be interesting to see what other people think about it! Could this be the next fad to take over from Big Mouth Brass (now that that craze has cooled down!).

It's the mouthpiece.

That is certainly part of it. Most people except for Joe don’t know this but I bought 2 of Blokes mouthpieces mainly because of the amazing craftsmanship without any intention on actually using them because I was happy with what I had. I even told Joe that I I appreciate the art, design and look, and yes this is real art and design that is very functional. After actually giving Joe’s mouthpieces a chance I have put all my other mouthpieces away and use his exclusively on all my horns now. His mouthpieces are fantastic and now I own 3 with the plans to buy more of the options he offers.

The three piece design in stainless with the options Bloke offers, cant be beat and he will set you up for the equipment your using. The three piece design also allows for many options and although they cost a little more your actually saving a lot since you don’t have to buy 30-40 mpc's before you find the right one like i have done over the years. I wont be selling anything I have and that is because my collection looks good sitting on the special shelf I made to store them while Blokes, mouthpieces stay in the horn or the gig bag ready waiting to be used.

I strictly endorse the Bloke mouthpieces without any reserve.

Not sure what you meant by your statement of " I bet Tom could not play one of those", could you clarify.

Just so you know, as well as others, I have owned a real PT6 in the past and have compared the new model together side by side this year. The main difference is in the sound. The PT6P has a noticeably brighter sound and the 900 model (Chinese Horn, if you may) was much warmer and had a better core. Not sure if this would come out in a video, but if someone wants to give up a PT6 for a few days I would love to do a side by side video.

Here is a little history on the tubas I have owned in the past, these are only the CC models:
MW 2165 with tone ring and smaller valve set.
MW 2165 with only 4 valves, made that way from the factory.
PT6 early version with smaller valve set, great horn, lacked the low register.
Cerveny 601 and 683 CC
About 12 different Alex 163 CC's
Alex 163 BBb
4/4 Rudy CC
5/4 Rudy CC
Kalison DS Model, bought from Paul Kryzwiki (sp not correct)
MW 30 and the 32, these are like the 188, by the way the 188 was copied after the MW 32, not vise versa.
Hisrsbrunner rotor, two of them.
Hirsbrunner piston, two different models, one a 4 valve and the other a 5.
Yamaha silver 3/4 CC piston.
Miraphone, 186, three of them, two from the '60s, and my first from the late 70's.

My Current personal horns are:
An Alex 163 5v CC in all gold brass, newer model made in 2004, great horn, great intonation great sound.
Wisemann 900 (based of the PT 6), this is one of the best tubas period on the market I have ever played in all areas.
Currently Cerveny BBb 601 Giant monster horn, with 5th valve, currently for sale as I just dont use it.
And of course the horns I sell through MACK Brass, the 410 CC, 200 and 210 BBb

Once I received my demo model as I have played in my most recent video, I knew this would be a game changer and dealt with the owner of Wisemann on getting an exclusive to this model as the company and I came down to a plan on marketing the model and have come to an agreement on the exclusive where i have full rights to it over the next year as long as I meet my end of the agreement. For now other companies may advertise it but it does not mean they will actually get them. As of October 1st we are now a brick and morter operation with plans to expand further and this deal is part of the plan.

I can tell you all, this will be the first horn to win a major audition in the right hands and has inspired me to start practicing again as it truely is a joy to play, maybe one day I will win an auditon, who knows but for now those days are long gone.

Like I keep saying, it sounds good, Tom sounds good, but I would still like to hear it compared against the PT6P.

Man, you guys seem to take everything the wrong way.

KiltieTuba, do you have a PT6 or if you know someone in the VA area please send them My information as I would love to do a comparison. Not sure a video will pick up much as the best way to compare is to just play them both side by side. What would you like to see in a comparison video? I am open to all ideas and your input will certainly be considered.

By the way, what do you play on currently?

OK, I've grown tired of the complaints I've received about this thread. The OP was merely pointing out some good playing performed by a SPONSOR on one of the horns he just happens to sell. Yes! It was originally posted in the TubeNet section. After receiving complaints about it being off topic, I moved it to the clipart section where video clips as well as photos are really supposed to be going. After then pulling the post because people felt it was a shill post to help promote sales for Tom, I pulled the thread in hopes that it would all blow over and be forgotten, thus keeping the peace. Well, it appears that this was a futile effort on my part as I am now receiving complaints about it having been pulled. So I'm now restoring it and those who complained can now either deal with their frustrations on their own or contact Sean and voice your complaints to him.

First and foremost, Tom is a sponsor and has paid for the privilege to promote and sell his horns here. HE IS NOT DEMANDING THAT ANYONE BY FROM HIM EXCLUSIVELY.

Second, so someone posted a video of Tom playing one of the horns that he sells and played quite well. SO WHAT!! That does not make the OP or anyone else a shill for Tom or his horns any more than it makes me a shill for singing the praises of my favorite horn manufacturer, Miraphone.

Third, if any one of you feel that I'm not qualified to act properly as a moderator on this board and feel you can do a better job at it while maintaining a full-time job in the real world, HAVE AT IT! Contact Sean right stinkin' now! The thread is restored and will remain restored.

One thing I will say to all is I have never nor will I ever ask anyone to post something on my behalf.

I do appreciate the recognition on my playing as it helps to keep me inspired. Doing now 100 videos on youtube have many purposes. I started by showing what the horns I carry sound like and have expaned on making different play lists demonstrating excerpts, etudes, solos and practice techniques. Some are videos of horns I sell and some are not.

I run mack brass as a musician first, not as a company that I rely on to pay my bills. I have never met Marty but it means a lot to me when a post like this is made.
