So far, I've been accepted to 2 of the 3 grad schools I applied to (still waiting on the 3rd). Great... now I have to choose where to actually go. :)

I just viewed yet another great story about kids who were surprised by their Dad coming home from the Far East for the Holidays. The story was heart-warming. But.... doesn't anyone in the military wear class A uniforms these days?

My wife's daughter arrived yesterday along with her husband and their two large dogs. The cats are in hiding! The very good things here is that the husband is a professional gourmet chef. Is that breakfast I smell?

I did discover last night that carry-out Chinese food goes very well with holiday porter beer!

By-the-way.... nice performance by The Elkhart Community High School marching band in the Macy's Parade a bit ago.

There are a lot of good reasons why guys coming back don't wear their class A uniform (now called the ASU, Army service uniform). One being that you don't take it over there. A lot of these surprise returns they literally are still wearing what they worn on the plane. They just go straight to their families and who can blame them?

Others get promoted or gain/lose a lot of weight while they are gone so they need to update/replace their dress uniform.

Most would rather see their families sooner than worry about putting their ASU together.

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

I grew up less than a thousand feet north of Summer Avenue on a street parallel to Summer...just about in the epicenter of where all of these mentioned and photographed places were/are located. Yeah...Summer Avenue was great for white trash Memphians in the 1950's - 1970's. I could see Pop Tunes Record Shop's sign out the east-facing window of my attic bedroom.

...and my shop (until about eight years ago) was located (three different locations over the years...all there) on Summer Avenue.

That Holiday Inn in the video is THE VERY FIRST Holiday Inn EVER- ANYWHERE.
There are a lot of places with iron fences like this one for rent on Summer Ave. now. Hmmm.

Well, bought a Kelly 5G to go with my Wessex Euph because I've been stuck on the stock mouthpiece for a couple weeks until Christmas. Eh. It's comfy, not much else. But for less than $30, not too shabby. Anyone no the specs of the stock wessex mouthpieces? It's a little too sharp for me. And another update, my fever broke. Yay me.

Some joker ran over my mailbox/bridge/sousaphone early this evening. Could have been a county snowplow. Dunno. The sousaphone is just a silver-painted Olds Commode-O-Phone. It's looks worse than it is. I'll just have to 'suck it up' and rebuild the bridge railing and glue the sousa back together in the morning.

We occaisionally get a dusting, 'cause we do have 4 seasons, although one of them is a fraud. However I called my sister in North Arkansas last week to report our 74 degree day while she looked out the window at a foot and a half of snow and ice. Just couldn't resist that call. The temptation was too great. I do remember 1976 there, 19 below with a foot of snow, and no I do not miss it.

Usually not very much, because snow is softer than most things, and it melts at room temperature... :P
