I LOOOOOOOOOVE Family Guy. IMO, it's the BEST cartoon. I just love the randomness of it.

Ah well, a vote for "other, sort of". Not the WB Bugs Bunny or Road Runner, but these guys:

One of the last high-quality shows written for the small screen...

Live in the state they are talking about for a while. It makes it either funnier or sadder depending on your perception. Not being a resident of the quahog state makes it funnier, but still not as funny as the Simpsons.

I very much agree. I especially enjoy Bugs Bunny. Those guys that wrote and produced those cartoons were truly geniuses.

I also like TubaTinker's choices.

While I like the WB stuff, a lot, and some things not on the list (like Betty Boop and Woody the Woodpecker), I really like the OLD Disney stuff. Mind you , not teh current crap, or even the 80's stuff. But the stuff done when Walt was in charge.

Donald on trombone was always a wild ride.

I agree 100%! The spoof on West Side Story is a classic. These are Looney Toones for the 90's. The characters are great. Slappy Squirrel (Now that's comedy...), The GoodFeathas, the baby and the dog (sorry, can't remember their names) and of course Wacko, Jacko and Dot. The music was so cool too. I have to see if I can get some DVDs of their shows. I used to tape them when I would watch them with my kids, but the tapes got lost over the years.

Just a little side-note (no pun intended). Our community band purchased a score of 'Cartoon Carnival' last year. It's a fun piece to play and contains a number of popular cartoon themes.

Bugs and friends are obvious winners. Even though I find Family Guy and King of the Hill funny I don't think anyone will be watching them 50 years from now the way we still watch the Warner Bros. classics. I still laugh my *** off when Daffy's bill is blown to the back of his head by Elmer.

Plus if we are talking current shows, The Simpsons is King. Intelligent satire that goes far beyond the fart jokes (although I do like fart jokes

) of Family Guy.

While you're filling in gaps, a few others must be mentioned.

First tier: Tom & Jerry (Chuck Jones & Tex Avery era)

Second tier: Pinky and the Brain; Darkwing Duck; Ren & Stimpy; Underdog; Heckle & Jeckle (it's been so long -- were these as good as I remember them?); ANY of the regular cartoon features from Rocky & Bullwinkle; Pink Panther.

Honorable Mention: Spongebob; Rugrats; Johnny Quest; George of the Jungle (or was that on Rocky & Bullwinkle?...hmmm)

I can understand your sentiments, and, as far as Southpark goes, I'll admit that many times the low brow jokes can be a bit too much to sift through.

Despite all of that though, I think many people would be surprised to hear that Southpark is an incredibly well-written, highly satirical show. Their movie was not only one of the best musicals I've ever seen, but also a great social commentary, as are many of the episodes. It can just be kinda hard to get to, sometimes.

Tim Murphy, who thinks that the label of "trashy humor" South Park gets is just another of the inside satirical jokes the show strives for.
