New BBb mini travel tuba!

Post by Wyvern »

To wet your appetite, preview of the new BBb travel tuba (tornister tuba), 'Mighty Midget', exclusive from Wessex Tubas.

For those that do not like the inherent stuffiness of the F/Eb Bubbie, this is a completely different horn. Easy blowing and an amazing sound. The few players who have tried the prototype, all want one for themselves.

We have not worked out exact price yet - that will be announced shortly.

10% discount for pre-orders with $500 deposit before end of September to launch this fantastic new tuba.

For customers in the UK, we hope to have prototype on the Wessex trade stand at the National Brass Band Championships, Cheltenham on 21/22 September and after that in our UK showroom to try

The new tuba is now up on the websites with prices, photos and specifications

USA - http://www.wessex-tubas.com/bbb-travel-tuba/

UK - http://www.wessex-tubas.co.uk/bbb-travel-tuba/

I actually took to wind band rehearsal yesterday evening to see how it would work with small band (18 players) with the Midget as the only tuba. It did amazingly well with me getting good comments, particularly from the trombones and percussion. It was hard work at ff, but (unlike the Bubbie) still sounded tuba like at high volume. The piccolo player far side of band said she could clearly hear me.

Only three weeks left to pick-up one of the new Mighty Midget at special introductory price!

Below is comparison picture of the new BBb travel tuba, comparing to the popular Eb/F Bubbie. You can see it is slightly shorter, but a lot fatter and larger bore, giving it a true tuba tone.

London professional John Elliott recently visited and tried, commenting on Facebook 'Bass Players Union' page;
I’ve played it, and it’s really good. Although not much bigger than the Bubbie, it’s a much larger bore. The sound is surprisingly big, and when blowing it the only thing that tells you that it’s not a full size job is the fact that the sound comes out at about eye level! Well worth investigating.

A number of people have taken up our pre-release reduced price for the BBb mini travel tuba, but to give a chance to more, I have decided to extend the 10% discount for pre-orders with deposit until Christmas.

The travel tuba will be available shortly after that and the offer will really end. So this is your last chance to get at bargain price.

I know many people are dubious of buying without trying, but I can assure you that the little tuba has been tried by better tuba players than me who have been very impressed with its tone and intonation. I hope we will have a demonstration recording by professional up on website during November. It is no good me demonstrating, as people then just pick up on my personal playing deficiencies and not those of the tuba.

How good is the little tuba was illustrated to me last Sunday when I exhibited at the Southern Areas Brass band contest (UK) and after unloading, went to move my van and on walking back into the hall I could hear the distinctive sound of a tuba being played. Very interesting when the stand came into sight to see someone was trying the Mighty Midget. It showed how well it projects (I heard from some distance away) and that it produces a true tuba sound, so I did not 'blind' identify as the mini tuba.

I have just posted on YouTube recording of the BBb Mighty Midget. Have a listen...

http://youtu.be/KvDvQYTFucY

The little tuba has met with 100% positive feedback from everyone that has tried. The big sound it produces has to be heard to be believed, while its intonation is good, and most of all it is so much fun to play. This is much, much better than the Bubbie, or any other travel tuba available.

There are now only THREE DAYS to order for 10% pre-release discount, as the first batch (which is entirely sold out) will be with us early January. However the second batch will be arriving February, so those that order now will not have long to wait.

The tuba will be on show to try at the US Army Tuba/Euphonium Conference, so if you are coming give it a try - you will be amazed!

Three finishes of the BBb Mighty Midget mini tuba. From left to right, lacquer, gold brass bell and silver-plated.

The first batch is already sold out, but the second batch will be in stock February. Unlacquered raw brass will also be available from the third batch in May for that aged patina.
