Re: Romeo and Juliet
Tuboss2, that is the best I have ever heard you play in ANY of your videos before!
Your attacks were clean & the tone was very good.
Better have those valves looked at tho.........too much clatter

Ya, they need to be oiled. But I have no oil...and since I'm on break...have to wait till we get back to school to get another bottle of oil. We'll see if that solves the clatter.
And thanks, to be frank, that means a lot. Been working lots of low range as of late.

Re: Romeo and Juliet
Here are some thoughts to work on and I must say hearing something like this is more pleasing to the ear.
Starting on the first three f's, start at a more mf dynamic and grow to forte by the third f and dont forget the accent. Also put a little more length in those notes. The accent doesn't mean short. From the beginning of this part of the excerpt the first phrase drives to the c on beat 3 of the next bar so drive and resolve it there with a full length value and accent on the c. Full length valve on all the notes without the accent should also be performed. From beat 4 of the second bar you can back off on the dynamic level to set you up for a crescendo on the desending line driving for resololution on the last phrase on the bottom f and keep the F full value with accent.
Practice this at half volume and work the volume up with the correct articulations and phrases.
One thing that is very impressive is that your not taking any breaths for the end, this is very difficult to do. If you do find yourself needing a breath towards the end on the desending line take it after the down beat of beat 4 of the 3rd bar or after beat 1 of the 4th bar. Even if you need both breaths that is fine as well as that is what I do.
Keep the videos coming and remember it not how well you play the notes it's what you do with while you play them that counts.

Gee man. Thanks a lot that helps a heck of a lot. Really detailed and beneficial. On the first 3 low F's, I assume I started too loud and had no where to go right?mctuba1 wrote:Here are some thoughts to work on and I must say hearing something like this is more pleasing to the ear.

And on the driving stuff, basically meaning to phrase it right?

I didn't do away with those Kiltie. So don't worry, I'll have another tuba fanfare/stand tune coming soon.

Re: Romeo and Juliet
MKII is mark two or a second version.
It would be good to see a second version of your video that demonstrates any improvements or that you have tried out the advice given so far.

Cant carry a tune but I can carry a tuba.
