Lacquer on a mouthpiece?
A feew weeks ago i went to my local wind instrument store to get my mouthpiece silvered because its completely naked brass right now. But it were going to cost more than bying a new mouthpiece! Its really annoying. I have heard that i could get nickel allergies from playing on it. I like the mouthpiece and its very old without any stamps or anything so geting a new one like it will be hard. Is it possible to spraying any lacquer on it instead? what can i do?

Re: Lacquer on a mouthpiece?
Sure, I've sprayed lacquer on a mouthpiece. I did a poor job of it. A repair shop could do much better.
Then I'd dip the rim in nail polish, because it's thicker and stronger. That comes off with acetone. That was actually what I was trying to do with the lacquer (nitrocellulose), and it came out too thin and not even enough.
Shellac might work, too, for the whole mouthpiece. Don't know, in this case you might dip it, and set it on end. Shellac dissolves in alcohol.
