Renting instrument in Germany

Post by AHynds »

Hello, all

In August, I will be in Germany to attend the Darmstadt Summer Course, and I'm currently looking at the options for getting an instrument over there for the course. I am curious to know if there is any way to rent a tuba wfor the 2+ weeks I will be in the country, and if so, what the procedure might be. I would be looking for an F or Eb tuba, specifically, and preferably something along the lines of a B&S, MW, or Miraphone horn. Any advice would be appreciated!

I borrowed an instrument once while on a band tour in Germany/Austria. The tour director was a well-connected musician in the area, so he made a deal to borrow a tuba from a local professional. If I remember correctly, Darmstadt is also relatively close to both Wiesbaden and Ramstein, so maybe you could try to connect with the US military tuba players in the area and see what help or suggestions they can offer. I can't remember who is where, but I believe there are some players there who frequent this board. Good luck, Germany is an awesome place to spend a few weeks!
