Cleaning A Cronkhite Leather Tuba Bag
A basic question to the experts here. What would be the best compound or solution for cleaning the outside of a Cronkhite Leather Tuba Bag? The bag has not sustained any stains at all, however I would like to clean and protect the leather surface. Ideas/Answers welcome! Thanks!

I use this Meguiars product on my Cronkite cases, leather car interiors and the leather chairs in my house. Doesn't take long (about 10 minutes for my 5/4 sized bag), not expensive and works well for me. I've bought it at my local Farm & Fleet, but I'm sure a good automotive place would stock it or you can get it on line. I tend to avoid the leather sprays/wipes on the market as I find they don't work as well as a good paste or lotion.

For keeping leather in good shape, we have been using Lexol (http://www.lexol.com/" target="_blank) for many years. The applications include luggage of various sorts, leather household furniture, leather clothing (including motorcycle riding and racing suits), shoes and boots, and various horse-related items. It's generally available at hardware stores, shoe stores, and I think Lowes and such carry it as well.
I don't think we've ever actually used the cleaner, but just the conditioner. There are circumstances (primarily treating new leather straps of various sorts: horse stuff, rifle slings, etc.) where we'll use Neatsfoot oil in order to get the flexibility desired, but you typically don't want to be soaking something in Neatsfoot oil if you're going to be wearing it or carrying it around so that it rubs against your clothing.

Thank you to all who sent in their suggestions and advice. I used the Meguiars leather treatment this morning on the bags. It worked very very well indeed. The leather looks terrific and it was a very low effort task with an excellent outcome. Thanks!
