Elaboration? I'm not sure what they did that Arnold Jacobs or Roger Bobo didn't do before them.Rivercity Tuba wrote:Chester Schmitz

Andrew Hitz (Boston Brass). Hearing him showed me that the tuba is actually musical and caused me to quit clarinets. Much appreciated.
Nat McIntosh-first heard him on Brooklyn and it redefined me sound concept (I now visualize an Aston Martin V12 Vantage) as well as showing me that I didn't have to be stuck within the confines of I/V or those Rebirth style basslines. If that tuba sound were a girl, I'd...have to censor the rest of this post...

A game change for me is Michael Jones.(look him up on youtube) this dude can do it all, he can sound really really pretty, and he can sound like a freaking TANK. I've set up my playing up to look like his(with my own styling of course). Y'all should really check him out on youtube. He has stuff for all types of people who has different taste in sound.

Howard Johnson. Yes, he built on what was done before him, Gravity and SNL introduced a lot of people to the concept of tuba in jazz.
Red Lehr. Quietly doing his thing for 50 years, wowing players and non players alike with his technique and tricks. And cuts some tasty meats.
And, don't choke on this one. . Fred Marrich. He built a little ol family music store into the preeminent tuba and euphonium dealer of the world. He recruited top players and teachers to support his brands, worked with manufacturers to make changes to existing instruments and develop new models, and essentially made a small Swiss factory home to the Rolls Royce of tubas. Say what you will about him. .. He's important to everything we now have.
