YAMAHA BB FLAT NEO.

Post by eeflattuba »

I am the owner of a yamaha bb flat neo tuba. It is a great horn but the problem i am having is that it plays flat. The local professional here, and my teacher, noticed the same thing when he played the horn, and suggested that i have the main tuning slide, both inner and outer slides cut, to improve the pitch. We both use a mike finn 3 mouthpiece.I am a 53 year old community band player who has been playing for 40 plus years. We have tried many different mouthpieces with the same result. I primariy play on a besson 981 and the pitch is spot on. Any help would be greatly appreciated

There's a TubeNet member here who also plays the BBb NEO in one of the British style brass bands. I forget his name, but hopefully if he see this thread he will chime in.
Miraphone 5050 - Warburton BJ/RF mpc
YEP-641S (recently sold), DE mpc (102 rim; I-cup; I-9 shank)
Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches:
"Always play with a good tone, never louder than lovely, never softer than supported." - author unknown.

True, his name is Andy Cattanach, andi believe he had his main tuning slide cut. As these tubas are now becoming very popular across the pond, i hope i can get some help in that direction.

Yes, had mine cut and a shortened main slide made (by Yamaha).

It might not help, but Stephen Adcock (stephen_adcock@gmx.yamaha.com" target="_blank) at Yamaha did mine, and I think you should at least inform him you're facing the same issues I did.

I believe the horn could be manufactured sharper than it is to no ill effect!

Yamaha Neo BBb x 2 (2011 and 2016), B+H 3v Imperial BBb.
