Ditto. Also, removing the pickup on the tuba mute opens up a small hole (similar to the Dennis Wick practice mute) that helps with the resistance and makes it just a little louder, where the electronics are not necessary.

How does the mute itself compare with the Best Brass and Denis Wick practice mutes (I'm familiar with those) in terms of intonation and sound reduction?

I've used both the Yamaha SB and the Best Brass practice mute with my euphonium. In my opinion, the Best Brass is better... and much lighter thus more portable. It fits inside the bell with your case or gig bag for easy transport.

I added the knob so I could get the mute out of the horn easily. Since I now play on the Miraphone 5050 with a bigger bell, the mute sits lower and it was a bit hard to get out. Intonation is okay, but not great.
