"Fletcher" EEb in quintet?
I was wondering who has used a "Fletcher" EEb in a quintet setting and how it worked? Thanks.

I have no experience playing one of these horns, but here's some footage of the great tubist Melvyn Poore playing one with the Cambrian Brass Quintet. I believe there's another video of them on youtube, as well.

Specifically, the M&M "Fletcher" model.

Any of those 3+1 large-bell EEb tubas work outstandingly well for most quintet literature, either the real Boosey/Besson tubas or the copies.
In fact, I even "bought" one about three years ago, partly for that purpose.
(still hasn't arrived...)

Re: "Fletcher" EEb in quintet?
I have used an M&M "Fletcher" model a lot with a brass quintet and have found that it works very well. The intonation and color this tuba produces blends very well with the other brass instruments. The clarity of articulation is very good without loosing too much of the body of sound. The only draw back I have found with this tuba is projection
At the higher dynamic levels. If you are playing with a very enthusiastic quintet (brass players who like to play really really really....loud), then this tuba will take a lot of work to balance the group. I ve played with a lot of quintets the past several years and it seems to me as if the dynamic level at the top end keeps going up and up, so recently I decided to go back to using a contrabass tuba in quintet. However I would really encourage you to give the fletch tuba a try, its a great tuba that has served me quite well on many brass quintet gigs. I hope this helps.

Dan: Thanks for that endorsement of the Fletcher. I have purchased one from a seller here so I am looking forward to playing it.
