6/4 CC usage poll
Good day,
I was having a chat today with a friend about how many people actually use a large 6/4 CC tuba. I wanna see if either of us were correct. Pick the option that best fits you. For "6/4 CC" I'm thinking about 4 piston 1 rotor horns to include but not limited to,
All York copies
All cut York/American 6/4 horns
The 6450, 2265, 2165
The PCK
The Willson 3050
PT-7
Thanks in advance.

Re: 6/4 CC usage poll
The only time I'm not using my 6/4 is when I'm playing cimbasso or playing an opera that requires tuba (Willson Eb).
My opinion for what it's worth...

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^(although I personally do not own a a cimblasto or an Eb.Jay Bertolet wrote:The only time I'm not using my 6/4 is when I'm playing cimbasso or playing an opera that requires tuba (Willson Eb).
Seems to me that people who respond "have 6/4 but don't use it" must have boat anchors for 6/4's.

The relevant part of the poll seems to be the people who responded that actually own a 6/4 CC. A little more than half of them use it quite often.

Re: 6/4 CC usage poll
Along with some of my fellow respondents, I use my 6/4 CC for pretty much everything. Mine is a 6450/2.
Orchestra, band, quintet, solo.. It's very versatile.
And I have a 4/4 CC (3450), Miraphone Firebird F, and Thor at my disposal.
Then again, I do believe my 6450/2 is a pretty special tuba. Never played another 6/4 more flexible, responsive, or colorful.

Re: 6/4 CC usage poll
I had a 3/4 Conn to complement my BART/BAT for a number of months. Whenever I brought it to either a larger church orchestra or my college/community orchestra, they kept asking for more sound. Not "louder" but "more". The directors had grown accustomed to the "Marty bottom" as one called it.
No replacement for displacement, although there is a time an place for every horn (let a bone player do Bydlo on a euph, it was just not happening on my big project horn)

Re: 6/4 CC usage poll
I think people would rather hear the tuba rather than just feel it.
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Re: 6/4 CC usage poll
I could get away with using my Gnagey for most of the large ensemble work I do (which isn't enough, sad to say) but I enjoy the Neptune far too much to part with it. When I get too old to schlep it around it'll have to go, but for now, it isn't eating anything.
Gnagey CC, VMI Neptune 4098 CC, Mirafone 184-5U CC and 56 Bb, Besson 983 EEb and euphonium, King marching baritone, Alexander 163 BBb, Conn 71H/112H bass trombone, Olds Recording tenor trombone.
