Chris,

try a bit more positive attitude! I understand your frustration, but do your personal best to make the ensemble great! Don't tear it down, because then you only tear yourself down!

relax.....and blow.....

Oh don't sweat the occasional bad performance. Try having four years of them. You'll know frustration then..

Chris I think you revealed yourself here. You are not a Christopher, you are a Christine.

MA, who also is a "she" who plays tuba.

It's probably a good idea that you have a forum like this in which to vent all of your trials and tribulations. Go ahead and rant. Being able to do it here is probably saving those around you a lot of headaches.

(I suspect this thread will be locked shortly)

Chris:

Mary Ann is referring to the manner in which you phrased the above. You said, "cause the other girl...." In order for there to be an "other" girl playing tuba, you would have to be that girl. This was a grammatical reference to an "Honors English" student.

TUBACHRIS85 wrote: I understand that now, I wrote it in a way that made it seem that I was a girl too. When it comes to my grammer, and spelling, I will usually not spell as accuratly on these posts. My true reference to being in Homors English is from my writing abilities, rather then my spelling. I dont do it intentionally, its that sometimes I miight not catch it. I understand what your are saying. I will be more cautious next time. When it came to the post you refered to, I didnt realize it, and didnt correct it. I thank you for your concern. -tubachris

The worst thing happened to us on stage today. My first valve got stuck after our first peice. I had to pull what I call a "marching band," were I constenly keep a finger under the valve to make it recoil after using it. It was really bad, and I wasent able to play to the best of my abilities, and was strange, cause the other tuba player, thats with me, has her third valve stuck too!!!! I guess I have to have a talk with my tuba tonight! , aw man it was our worst performences ever!

Put it behind you. There will be other performances at other times. Use this as a springboard to play the pants off your next concert. As a side note, whenever you go onstage, you should ALWAYS have a bottle of valve oil, and if an emergency occurs, use some time to fix it. It will be time well spent because instead of limping through the whole concert, you will be able to devote all of your attention to playing after only wasting a few seconds.

Just be glad it wasnt a solo when your valve got stuck!

I'd never perform with out oiling the valves, dumping all the water you can find, and lubing the slides. Proper preperation goes a long way.
