At Last!

Post by Art Hovey »

New Haven's Neighborhood Music School (http://neighborhoodmusicschool.org/abou ... me_to_nms/) has been running an annual concerto competition for young musicians for many, many years. I remember 50 years ago a trombonist friend of mine wondering aloud why it was always won by a violinist or a pianist.

Well, folks, last night two winners performed, and they were both bass clef instruments! One was a lovely young girl with a cello, and the other was my own tuba student, Andrew Hook. Andrew performed the first movement of the Gregson concerto and impressed a lot of people. Andrew will give his own recital at the NMS on May 27.

It always makes a teacher feel they've accomplished something when a student does well.

Best wishes to you and Andrew.
