Is there a significant difference in the sound quality of a Grand Orchestra mouthpiece from a Symphony with the delrin cup depth extender? If so, what is different or how would you describe the difference?
Thanks for any information

Re: Blokepiece Symphony /Grand Orchestra Question
I had the Blokepiece Symphony with a PT88 rim, and it was really just too big for my Willson 3050, then I went and visited Joe, and when I was trying out his Holton, he had a Grand Ochestral plugged into the beast, the Holton is about the same size as my Willson, so I figured it would work perfectly. I asked Joe to switch with me and he obliged.
With all that said, I find that the Grand Ochestral and the Symphony are very different animals. While both pieces produce color, and two different colors at that. I found the Ochestral to produce a little less woofy when it came to using it on my BAT. I also found the articulations cleaner, slurs cleaner, and just an overall better fit with my BAT.
Outta curiousity what horn are you using with these Blokepieces?
Hope this helps!

Re: Blokepiece Symphony /Grand Orchestra Question
A 186 BB and a King 2341 (new style). I like the sound of the Symphony so much better than the other two mouthpieces I've tried, a Bach 18 and Hellerberg 120. I've used the Symphony a year and half. Wondered if the Grand would give me a richer sound (for lack of a better way to describe it). When I've used the extender, the sound seemed to be a bit less distinct.

Re: Blokepiece Symphony /Grand Orchestra Question
Prior to the introduction of the Grand Orchestra mouthpiece, the Solo was probably the best choice for a true 6/4 tuba. (The kids like to call anything bigger than a 186 a 6/4 these days.)
However, the solo was not quite deep enough for all uses on a horn that size, so adding the Delrin extender made it "just right."
The Orchestra Grand is now probably the best choice in the Blokepiece catalog these days for a real 6/4 contrabass, but the solo makes a good companion for a slightly different color. Even the Imperial can have a place in the 6/4 toolbox for a medium funnel cup. The Symphony seems more geared for 4/4 and true 5/4 tubas IMHO. I tried several variants on my horn while changing receivers and making other front end tweaks, and I could never get it to really work for me on a horn of those dimensions.
Note: all this is based on my personal experience with my instruments, which are perpetually evolving. Your mileage may vary. Past returns are no guarantee of future performance. Get your parents permission before you dial.

This is exactly my experience, but on a Gronitz PCK.had the Blokepiece Symphony with a PT88 rim, and it was really just too big for my Willson 3050, then I went and visited Joe, and when I was trying out his Holton, he had a Grand Ochestral plugged into the beast, the Holton is about the same size as my Willson, so I figured it would work perfectly.
