Mouthpiece advice, Laskey, Schilke, and Perantucci

Post by ThaZhangsta »

I currently play on a Laskey 30H. I feel like I have some tone issues on it. I also feel that I use a lot (more than nessicary) of air when I play with the Laskey on

I've been lookin at the Schilke GEIB piece but I'm not sure if it is the right choice for my problem. I want to find a mouthpiece that has great tone in all registers that has a tighter bore or throat.

WHAT DOES GEIB MEAN??

I also looked at the Peranticci PT-83. I'm not sure about that one either.

If anyone has experience with any of the mouthpieces I mentioned please leave a response.

GEIB used to make well-regarded tuba mouthpieces and others have issued similar models.
I use a Laskey 30H with my Euro receiver and I like it. If you find something that suits you better (especially if it's more air-efficient), please post a follow-up.

What are you comparing the Laskey 30H to in your descriptions of its characteristics? Also, what horn are you using it in? Both of those facts will give a better idea of what you should be looking at. I borrowed a friend's Laskey 30H before I purchased my Sellmansberger Symphony, and my impressions were pretty different from what you're describing. The sound had a lot of extra color compared to my Conn Helleberg, and I remember feeling that it was also a bit more efficient (all of these impressions from my East German BBb rotary). Another player I know had very excellent luck using the 30H on his Holton 345 CC.

Still curious as to what mouthpiece you're comparing to when you say the 30H feels inefficient. Like I mentioned last post, that was definitely one impression I didn't get from it.

I went to the 30H from a Conn Helleberg (on American receiver). I can still readapt to the Helleberg or a Bach 18 pretty quickly.
