Swiss French Composers

Post by charlie12893 »

Hi Everyone,

I'm taking a course right now called "Francophone Switzerland," for which I need to undertake a "creative project." I'm thinking a great idea would be to perform a solo on either euphonium or tuba that was written either by a Swiss French composer (can't be a Swiss German composer), OR, was written in Geneva, Lausanne, Neuchâtel, etc. Does anyone know of any solos for tuba or even trombone that were written under any of these circumstances?

Thanks!

Jean-François Michel is a trumpet player from Fribourg who also works as composer and arranger.

Here's a short answer to your question.

Although not Swiss,
Stravinsky wrote 'La sacre du printemps'
and 'Petrouska' in Clarens, close to Montreux.

Freddie Mercury recorded Queen albums not too far away. (again not Swiss, but his Swiss nationality was accepted 3 days after he died)

Étienne Crusaz is a tuba player and composer who lives in the Gruyère region of Fribourg.
