My tour of Louisiana

I would like to take this opportunity to say how pleased I am with the development of tuba ensembles in Cajun country. I just finished a brief tour with stops at Northwest State in Natchitoches, Southeast Louisiana in Hammond, and Louisiana State. Masahito Kuroda at NSULA, Casie Forbes at SELU, and Dr. Joseph Skillen at LSU were all very gracious hosts and I had a wonderful time sharing music with all of them. The small schools particularly impressed me with their enthusiasm and desire to grow their programs.

Although I do not know the tuba teacher at SELU, I can say that the music program as a whole is quite impressive. The trumpet studio there is really something. Glen Hemberger, the band director, is truly a class act.
