Sousaphone Piston Question

Post by Worth »

This is related to another recent post of mine in the for sale section. Does anyone out there know of any other sousaphones that take 1.065 x 3.57 x .730 bore pistons aside from a 1920 s BBb Buescher? Appreciate your help.

Thanks for the info and response. This will likely fall into the hands of a competent brass technician unless a beater parts horn or cluster shows up somewhere. From research I've learned these valves are hard to come by otherwise. I'm not averse to spending some $$ with a tech but wanted to test the waters re possible replacement parts options first.

I have a Buescher 4V sousa sitting here that I tried in vain to find a piston for. I think there was a chance that the piston from my Selmer Signet sousa would have work but I didn't want to relocate the key to try it.

The only other sousa I know of that shares the same diameter piston is the Selmer/Buescher/Bundy sousas.

Thanks very much for that info as well. I definitely read through your thread when researching this. Seems it may be best to keep her ready for if and when someone decides to either sell or cannibalize a beater

There is a fellow in Omaha who will make a piston at a reasonable price. Email me privately for further information.
