Wessex Tubas F,EEb

Post by eupho »

Does anyone have experience with or own the Wessex F "Strauss" model or the EEb "Champion"? Thanks.

I owned the six valve Jinbao F tuba. (Wessex gets their tubas from Jinbao) I recently sold it because of the intonation. It was nearly impossible to play it in tune. Better off only playing CC rather than CC and that F tuba. Steer clear of it.

I am well-aware of the problems with the JInbao 6-valve F. The Wessex "Strauss" 4 Valve F is a PT-10 clone. Mack also carries this model and Tom likes it.

The PT 10 copy is a great horn, yes I carry them as well as Dillon and Jonathan.

One thing I have to say is I have owned two of the PT10's years ago and they both had the same issue where anything above above the f above the staff did not center well and Bydlo g# was impossible. The first one I tried was at Dillons booth at the Army conference and it was great. I was able to play it with a tuner before the crowds arrived and there wasn't a bad not on the horn.
