tiny yamaha tubas

Post by ken k »

hello fellow tubenetters,
Yamaha makes the tiny 621s in BBb, CC, and F but not to my knowledge in Eb. Has anyone ever tried to cut a BBb or CC version to Eb or even make the F longer somehow to Eb?

I have often wondered why Yamaha didn't redesign the YEB-321 with front action valves. What a killer horn that would be. A 621 in EEb would also be a great solo/quintet horn.

Our very own Dan Schultz (tuba tinker) did just that for (I think) T.J. Ricer. Dan has the info on his website at http://thevillagetinker.com/yamaha_yeb3 ... ersion.htm

Jc built a top action Eb out of a small Yamaha Bb (smaller than a 321).

I like that horn Tinker made but i think the 321 bugle and bell are larger than the 621.

What got me thinking of this is, I just saw the Canadian Brass Tuesday evening and Chuck carries the Yamaha 621 CC around all night without a strap. I know they are fairly light since I have an old Yamaha YBB103 (same bugle) that I occasionally use for strolling gigs and wold love a four valved Eb version of the horn. I may just have to buy another 103 and have it converted to Eb for fun.
