Re: My New Sousaphone Hero!
I never really understood this but it has happened all over LAUSD.bloke wrote:- Many band directors view their (perfectly good...often King) fiberglass sousaphones as "things of contempt"/"garbage"/"don't project"/"sound like crap"?
When i marched the allcity band i was the only one with a fiberglass sousaphone, i used an older metal bell that i found in the storage bin (looked like crap, had crappy white paint all over it ) was louder than most of the players with those shiny new jupiters (some were quad valve model).
i find that many directors focus more on the appearance of an instrument rather than teaching their students proper technique to be able to actually play it at a proficient level.

Re: My New Sousaphone Hero!
I ordered a few pBones at work about two years ago, to try and get more kids playing trombone. I went into a 6th grade classroom looking for volunteers. I had 2 pBones, and 2 decent brass trombones. All the kids who signed up were girls, and they fought over who got to use the metal ones. They refused to be seen as too weak to carry a real trombone.
