Just got dents removed from a Mirafone 191 I recently purchased that came with a hard case. Asked the technician about getting a gig bag and he didn't recommend it. He has seen too many cases of "gigbagitis" and advised me to stick with the hard case! I know my Sanders definitely picked up more dents after I started using a gig bag the past several years.

With any gig bag, you still have to be careful. Some people call them "dent bags," which is probably an accurate description of the level of protection. But if you don't walk into things and are reasonably careful, you won't have many problems. For me, I've carried tubas 5+ years in the NYC subway, and no incidents. And before that, driving with my tuba and carrying it from a parking lot to a rehearsal, certainly no problems there.
Cronkhite cases are great, and they offer the best protection (especially the leather). The design is good, but I've never liked the detachable pocket on the front -- a little awkward to use and I just don't like how it looks. I once had a Cronk where the usual "back" pocket was on the front instead, and that was much better. The Cronk's also hang a little low on your back, so for really long distances, it's not so great. But you probably won't do better.
Miraphone bags are great, but they don't make a tuba the size of the 2165, so you're probably out of luck there.
I have a Gotz bag for my Rudy Meinl, which is also very well made, but haven't used it enough yet to form an opinion.
