Re: Update Update
So last Sunday I'm playing in the St. Paul Postal Band at a local park. We are playing for the post office worker union picnic. We've played for this event at the location for the last15 years or so. I'm the only tuba (actually helicon) player in a group of about 25. We play for an hour and then get fed. Just after we finished and are putting our stuff away, the local police officer drives up. It turns out we have had a complaint about the noise. It turns out that there is
An ordinance against playing musical instruments, amplified or not amplified, in the park. Well that was a surprise! This group has players from about 30 to 90 years old. The baritone player has an oxygen tank attached to him as he plays. We didn't get a ticket because the officer did not see us playing. But this begs the question, was I exempt from this ordinance because I play the tuba? ( for those a little slow, it implies a tuba is not really a musical instrument). This was a real situation but I'm trying to fine humor in it.

Sounds like someone had at least one too many. You are less than hour away from Leinetown aren't you?

Sounds like fun, I'm sorry I missed this one. Hopefully I'll be there Monday night.opus37 wrote:So last Sunday I'm playing in the St. Paul Postal Band at a local park. Next year, you guys should perform John Cage's "Four minutes and thirty-three seconds." Maybe play it a few times. That'll show 'em.

Some people also "consider" buying -- which is a bit more frustrating.bloke wrote:Some people here "consider" selling their tubas.

Re: Update Update
Recent news is that USPS lost $2,000,000,000. My mailbox is positioned on a post with an arm that reaches across the ditch to put the box at a distance and height for best convenience for the mailman. The neighbor's box is about 8 feet back from the road next to his driveway, which is entirely within regulations for this area. So ... the mailman just puts the neighbor's mail in my box and leaves it to me to transfer it to my neighbor's box. Oh yeah, and the USPS lost $2,000,000,000.

You should play dumb... hold onto the mail or a week, return it all to the post office, and say you've been receiving someone else's mail.SplatterTone wrote:Recent news is that USPS lost $2,000,000,000. I like yard work. That is why I still do my own although everyone else in my neighborhood hires it out. I spent 6 hours today doing yard work that I had been putting off more than a week due to rain. I hate yard work. You have been updated.

Re: Update Update
I am back after a lovely trip to Germany (to visit family and drink beer) and Scotland (to visit friends and drink Scotch and beer). I survived rehearsal last night as we prepare for a dedication ceremony in Springfield, OR for a "Simpsons" mural. I didn't lose as much as I had feared I would, and the god-awful travel bug that arrived 36 hours after my return to the states had abated enough to let me play.
