I believe the tuba repair specialist Mid-South Music Sales and Svc. is located in Williston TN, not Pine Bluff AR. The one in Pine Bluff AR is a typical music store.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

J.c. Sherman works out of Allied Music in Cleveland, Ohio. There are lots of shops close by me, but I would rather drive three hours to take something to him. He works miracles with brass!

Remove Robb Stewart from the list. He no longer works on tubas, only small brass.

Chris Bluemel works out of The Instrument Doc in Charleston, South Carolina. I would definitely add him to the list.

Heheheheh...

No, I don't believe Kanstul wants to do tuba repairs either, unless it's one of theirs. (What if we drop a Miraphone screw and lose it? Then we're really $&%#'d - ZK)

Don Sawday in Long Beach may do some of that though.

When my horn needed an over haul, Jack Kanstul told me Kanstul only work on horns made in their factory.

Sorry, Not trying to stir up anything, I'm just a tad confused. A little clarification please. Is this suppose to be a list of shops that do complete overhauls/major rebuild/restorations or just a list of shops that generally fix up/work on tubas (i.e. make needed corrections, fix valves, posh dents, solder and make shiny, spot lacquer)? Its nice to be able to recommend other places that do good reliable tuba work. For the record, I try to avoid sousaphone and student grade tuba overhauls. I am happy to fix/repair/makeparts for them, just not interested in spending a lot of time making something nice that is not appreciated and will be trashed in a few years or less.

As a side note, Kanstul will rebuild more modern trumpets of most any make, trumpets are a cake walk and a good money maker. But, they wont even accept a tuba that has already been rebuilt, polished/buffed and degreased that is just to be lacquered, let alone perform a complete overhaul on it. :? Those of us who do such work know and completely understand why, rebuilding tubas is a god awful lot of back breaking work that is not as lucrative as working on most anything else in the way of band instruments. I would expect though that they will do there own stuff... maybe.

So to be clear, if the shop can go from this:

To this:

They should be on this list, without any doubt. :D

I agree with Dan O inasmuch that there is sometimes a vast difference in what some call an overhaul or restoration. I do not do any lacquering or plating here.

My specialty is play conditioning. I think the word 'restoration' is sorely misunderstood.
