The PT 48+ is the same as the PT 48, except with lots more metal on the outside.
Think of it as a "heavyweight" version of a PT 48. The same is true of all the plus models.

The PT-X models that have the + after them denotes their "heavy weight" model. Same basic mouthpiece, just more mass. I do reccomend reading about them on the Perantucci website though to see if this is what you want. http://www.custommusiccorp.com/onlineor ... chist.html They are slightly modified for this design over the standard models... so If you like one, you may not necessarily like the other (e.g. I love my pt-50, but to not care for the + version of it)

The 48+ just looks like a big "shower head" compared to the 48.

Here's your picture.
The only places I know that sells PT mouthpieces are Custom Music and Woodwind and Brasswind (www.wwandbw.com). However Custom Music seems to have a more complete stock.
Custom Music is your best bet, they do sell PT-48+, just call and ask if they have any in stock, Neal Campbell is very easy to work with. And if your professor told you to get a PT-48+, maybe you should get one- you can always return it if it doesnt work - I doubt it though, PT-48 is a very friendly big mouthpiece. But of course, for each his own.
As for price, ask if your professor can get you a better deal on these.

I don't know if anyone else in the US has them. You could try WW&BW.

If Custom Music wants you to wait long enough, check out:
