bome and meinl, beem and meinl, bame and meinl? something else and meinl? anybody...

Something else and Meinl.
The ö sound (written oe if you can't get the dots on the o) doesn't exist in English, so it's very hard to explain. You would say /bome/ if the dots weren't there.
I'll see if I can find an audible dictionary.

I think berm & meinl is closer to the german pronunciation. (Not 100% correct but a bit closer).

Yes, I think this is the closest you can get using English phonetics.

While visiting my brother-in-law recently he explained it similarly. He said to pronounce the ö you should pucker you lips like you were going to speak and O, but make an E sound instead.

In german class, they said that the oe sound was making an o shape but making an a sound, where as ue is with the o shape and the e sound.
