Hi
The 2015 Australian band championships also include a solo competition. For tuba they divide the tuba competition into high (Eb and F) and low (Bb and C) tuba.
For the low tuba test piece they have chosen Variations for Ophicleide Kummer, arr. Stephen Mead Studio Music. The music store I was going to order it from said they thought it was too high for C tuba (the guy is a eupho player so should know)
I emailed the organising committee and they said they would look into it.
Has anyone played this piece on tuba? Can anyone comment on it's suitability for C tuba?
Thanks
Is this piece too high for tuba?

So it looks way harder and higher than the piece they have chosen for the high tuba piece - the Gregson tuba Concerto.

These sample pages were from the site of a distributor.
The committee likely had expected a treble clef Bb version that the BBb tubas could have played an octave down. Which would not have been of immediate help for the CC players, unless they had learned the transposition.
