5th valve configured to 2 whole steps

I've been playing on an Alexander CC who's 5th valve lowers the pitch 2 whole steps in other words I play low F with 2,3, and 5 and it can be used to play an Eb while playing first line G , I play low D 3,4, and 5. And so on, over the time I've played it I've decided I really love this configuration, my question is, now that I have another CC, is it really just a matter of pulling the slide to fit that interval? on my meinl Weston I've tried to pull the 5th slide and it's hard to explain but it doesn't feel the same as the Alex, so is it something else that has to be changed professionally ? And if so, what would the costs be to do whatever it is that needs to be done,

I think what you want is a longer slide, rather than any kind of permanent structural change. Preserve the option (1 step versus 2) for the next owner of your instrument. If anything, having something like that ready at hand would enhance the instrument's value. Surgery could cause you to lose value.

I wonder if meinl Weston would provide me with one, I can't imagine it'd cost more than a few hundred dollar's but I guess I really wouldn't have any clue, but yeah I think your right having a pair of slides that is instead of one

Why not contact the source: Alex?

Different tubas play differently. I suspect no matter what you do, your WM won't play one bit different than now. Alexanders have a different feel. Tusabtuba

My 184 CC had the two whole step 5th valve, and my 182 F had the flat whole step. I strongly preferred the two whole step valve, which I found much more useful.

Lol weinl meston! But yeah you may be right about the Alex being unique, still either way I prefer the 2 whole steps configuration it just seems so much easier to use and the ability to play a low C with valves is something I really enjoy

There are guys who post here who could fabricate an extension slide for you, probably for a lot less than the OEM (Meinl Weston, not Alexander, right?) would charge. Speaking for myself, I have owned and own horns with the flat whole step, as well as with the 2 step. It can get confusing for a little while going back and forth, but it all works out. Anyway, either flavor is better than just having 4 on a CC.
