I see that the bell garland clearly says "Mirafone". But... there is little else about that horn that speaks "Mirafone". The tops of the rotors aren't engraved and the mounting plates for the thumb ring and harness loops are wrong. The finger paddles also don't look quite right.

The horn is probably an F and might be a hybrid. Perhaps the horn is really a Cerveny/Amati and the back rotor caps and bell came from a Mirafone. ???

EDIT.... yeah.... I should have recognized this as a euph the first time around!

It has an engraving as a school instrument, MHS, and an inventory number.

I think the point was "was this stolen?" or "is this still owned by the school?"

Seller's response:
"We are a pawn shop. Had this on loan. The owner defaulted on the item. I have had it next to my desk for a year not knowing what to do with it. "

I bought a school horn on Ebay because I wasn't paying attention. The seller had several, must have been the main customer for the school. It doesn't mean anything, but what an unlikely horn for a school to own!

A band directors who was not a low brass geek may have ordered this by mistake many years ago. Particularly before the Internet age, most music teachers were lucky to have a few weeks of tuba and/or euph during their one semester of brass methods and probably knew very little about anything other than a trumpet or trombone. It still amazes me that some schools won't even go near a "french" horn for their instrumental program, either, due to lack of knowledge. Or the "3/4" tubas purchased for 5th graders that are as tall as they are, despite the smaller bore.
