My wind ensemble is playing both of those pieces, as well as Holiday Piece, Holiday Portraits, Winter Dances, and A Christmas Festival Fanfare.

Ha. Sounds like a typical summer walk on the ocean beach or bayshore in the San Francisco Bay area. Brrr.

Glad I came home when I did. It was 28 on the beach last night. When I asked my brother-in-law, who is renting the house for a month, if he had a walk on the beach, he hung up on me.

Currently, my town, Hamburg (The Weather Channel is reporting from here) has about 50+ inches in less than 18 hrs ( cold air and a very warm Lake Erie= Lake Effect Snow) with another 24"+ coming--wind chill below zero and heavy drifting with winds 35 mph....and next Monday they say it may hit 60 degrees...we currently have a driving ban in effect...and there is still over 1 month to the first day of Winter...sigh...

PS. The end of my driveway--from plows and drifting--is way over my head in snow and I am 6' 3".....

Mark, please don't get up on an icy roof. On the other hand if you fall into a 6 foot snow drift it won't hurt so much.

60 inches of snow in the Buffalo area... the final total may reach 100 inches

updated Tuesday evening......
An incredible weather event continues in Buffalo this evening.
It doesn't look like much on the radar.

The fairly narrow band of lake effect snow being whipped up by strong WSW winds blowing along the entire length of Lake Erie is picking up massive amounts of moisture and is dropping massive amounts of snow in the Buffalo area.

At the airport, about 3 inches has fallen. 5 miles away the snow total is at 60 inches and is rising at inches per hour.

Some areas in Buffalo have picked up as much snow in the last 24 hours as we have had in the last 4 years.

By the way, Agawam HS has defeated West Springfield HS in their annual Thanksgiving day football game. The final score was 38-36 in overtime.

I have spent the last several days agonizing over a choice between two job offers. I am truly thankful to be in this situation, but it doesn't make the choice any easier. Job A has a good salary (more than I have ever been offered before) and will work well with my plans to go to grad school. Job B pays a LOT more than Job A, but means staying in NY and dropping out of school (and maybe not going back).

I hate to turn down a "sure thing," but at the same time (unlike music) a PhD in my field appears to have immediate and lucrative employment opportunities (both now and when I finish school in 5 or 6 years).

My wife and I have talked about this ad nauseam, and I think I know what I will choose. It's been a nerve-racking weekend, though I am thankful to have had the opportunity for my nerves to be racked.

What Joe said. What an awesome, hard choice to have to make. Good luck however you decide.
