Hi,
I bought a King 1241 and I'm curious.
What's the measure of the length of the horn if I change the removal bell and put a fix bell like a CB50 or Holton/York EEb monster.
I know that the pit will change, but can I repair?
May I increase the length of lead pipe? Or the tune slide?
Is it possible play it in tune? Like a new King 2341?
Suggestions
Thanks

There were some of the Kings of that ere made with one-piece upright bells as opposed to a detachable bell. King made a few 'running changes' to the open bugle over the years to work out some intonation issues between the recording and upright bells so simply replacing your existing bell with a modern bell might be somewhat of a 'crap shoot' in terms of intonation. Here's what you need to look for in order to replace your old detachable bell and stack:
19 or 22" flare (a 19" bell may play a little sharper than a 22" one)
31" overall length
14 3/4 circumference small end
Yes... you can compensate with the horn going sharp by adding to either the leadpipe or the main tuning slide. Once again... messing with the open bugle sometimes does not product satisfactory results.

By-the-way... to give you some idea of what I said earlier about interchanging King parts being sort of a 'crap-shoot'....
I just measured a fixed bell off an HN White (older King) and the dimensions are as follows:
22" flare
25 3/4" overall length
14 5/8" circumference of stem end (4.66" diameter)
The serial number of the horn this bell came off is 9609X (perhaps 1932) with a leadpipe that goes directly to the valve section. The main slide is AFTER the valve section.
