Re: Denis Wick mpcs unloaded...
Good find, for anyone looking for something for an old small shank Eb tuba. I looked at only one (the 1 with the old style exterior) but appeared to me they're all small shank. I sent him a "question" in hopes of alerting him to the difference, since from the ad he seems to be oblivious.

I asked the same question and got an email reply that said it probably is a small shank. I see he still hasn't updated the listing. This guy knows his stuff and is a pro player so I would cynically suggest that he knows that the market for a small shank is tiny and is purposely being less than forth coming. My guess is all those folks bidding assume it is a large shank. Won't they be surprised.Donn wrote:Good find, for anyone looking for something for an old small shank Eb tuba. I understand what you guys are saying about most of the Denis Wick tuba mouthpiece line being "small shank"
But it isn't that difficult to go to the Denis Wick site & educate yourselves on the number AND letter designations
of these mouthpieces. From what I can see, anything with an "L" (large shank) would be equivalent to an American Shank size & all of the others are small shank. I would expect that people would find this stuff out before buying a mouthpiece on eBay & end up being "surprised" when it arrives

Re: Denis Wick mpcs unloaded...
Apparently you missed the XL. The seller should list the shank size to avoid any confusion and this guy does know his stuff. There is no reason to not mention it -especially when many people would not even think that small shank even exists. Kids and people under 30 would especially not realize such a small size exists and would just assume it would fit their horn. I own several Wicks of different shank sizes - including small shank - and it has been a long time since horns were made for small shank. There are not many people using small shanks these days. And seriously you must realize most people are way too lazy to bother to look it up - so the seller would save himself (as well as the buyer) the grief of having to return it and having to relist the mouthpiece.TubaMusikMann wrote:I understand what you guys are saying about most of the Denis Wick tuba mouthpiece line being "small shank"

I definitely do not disagree with you on thistofu wrote:There are not many people using small shanks these days. I'd be too lazy, too. I mean ... if I had never heard of a "small shank" and had no reason to suspect its existence, and that's how it is for most tuba players. I met this guy years ago and thought highly of him, but this is poor.
