3D Printed Helleberg

Post by OldsRecording »

Image

It's not a great picture, but this is a Helleberg copy my son and a friend of his did on a 3D printer. The tape on the shank is because the mouthpiece has a slightly rough texture, and my son sanded it smooth, but it is slightly too small now. I told him Version 1.5 needs to have a slightly larger shank. I tried it out, and it actually works very well.

How is the cup and rim? Did it take some polishing and smoothing? Pretty cool idea for trying out some new shapes and techniques.

The rim is on the flat side and has a textured surface, as does the inside of the cup. I am not sure how we would go about shaping, sanding and polishing the rim without making it uneven.

It's a bit of a hack, but you can often smooth out the ridges of a print using a solvent vapor. Some folks have gotten very positive results out of it.
