*Actually, it's for these reasons:
1/ iPhones actually have good reception at blokeplace, unlike bloke's antique Nokia flipfone.
2/ We've started using Square to process credit cards.
3/ Mrs. bloke and I will be at two tuba shindigs simultaneously this spring, and no one will be at home by the "black box" to process verbally-communicated credit card payments.
4/ All of that having been said, please do NOT text me. Just CALL me.
Joe-
You will love your iPhone!!! They are incredible...

Well, Bloke and a dog. Who would have thunk it. Dog don't usually mark their owners, so either Ms. Bloke secretly trained the dog to do this or it's a statement (from the dog) about acceptance of Bloke as an owner. This is going to be a long winter.........
We have a lot of awkwardly frantic dogs around here, probably the majority - warped from too much isolation while owners at work. As I've said before, you see a dog that goes everywhere with its owner, and it's like night and day - calm, alert, I bet even a Jack Russell terrier would be tolerable.
The French Horn player on the Christmas Eve/Day gigs gave us all a jar of his homemade 'Drunken Cherries'....cherries with Vodka, Rum, etc.....Christmas just a bit "merrier"

Yesterday on Christmas morning, I decided to replace a faulty smoke detector before the inlaws arrived on the 26th. The replacement was a different brand, so I needed to change out the mounting brackets and wiring harness. While standing on a stepladder, I stretched up and began removing the old discus shaped mounting plate. It fell down sideways, and landed edge first went straight into my upper lip. I spent the rest of Christmas with a fat lip. Fortunately, I had completed all my Christmas playing the night before and could take off the 25th and probably one or two more days after.
Last night when I got out of rehearsal the "Feels like" in Marietta, GA was -2 but the temp was only 19. This morning the temp was 11 but the feels like was 7. A 40 mph wind does awful things to the "Feels like".
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.
Good Evening,
This is the Town of Hamburg Office of Emergency Services. Today is Thursday January 8, 2014 at 7:30pm.
In anticipation of the Lake Effect Snow Storm that is approaching Western New York, the New York State Thruway Authority has decided to remove all Tractor Trailer Traffic effective 9pm tonight. Furthermore, the New York State Thruway will be closed from Henrietta to the Pennsylvania Line at midnight tonight.
We were told this will be in effect until further notice.
With the Lake Effect Snow Band that is supposed to establish itself over our area, dropping between 2 and 3 feet of snow from Friday afternoon to Saturday morning, we are asking people to avoid traveling if you don't have to. This will allow snow removal to do their job, and not have to operate around stranded motor vehicles.
It is forecasted that temperatures will be in the teens, with winds gusting to 40mphs; wind chills will be well below zero. Please limit your time outside, keep an extra eye on the elderly.
With temperatures dropping throughout the region, Do not leave pets outdoors when the temperature drops. If you have outdoor dogs or cats, bring them inside. Pets are at risk of frostbite, hypothermia and death during extreme cold, and wind chill is particularly dangerous. Exposed skin on noses, ears and paws can quickly freeze and suffer permanent damage.
We will update you as the conditions are expected to change tomorrow late morning.
Thank you

Um, isn't it supposed to be cold in winter? We are in our usual air inversion fog here, with temps in the high 30's. It is colder some places, warmer others. It will be summer again in about 5 months or so. Unless you're in the southern hemisphere, then it is the other way around. Is that clockwise or counter clockwise? I forget.
I rode home from work Wednesday evening on the scooter in 12 degrees Fahrenheit. It was probably the longest 35-40 minutes of my life. I took the Roadmaster wagon yesterday and today (which I rarely drive anymore except for schlepping the kids back and forth the couple miles from their mother's house to my house.) I got pulled over for expired tags.
We've been through this drill before -- last winter, actually. And it's important to keep in mind that just because it is very cold in the United States doesn't mean that you should question the overall warming trend for the planet. Weather shifts heat and cold around -- we know that. We also know our own local experiences inherently bias us, since we live the weather in only one place. But the total global picture remains one of warming.
Just like it did following the last two ice ages.
Exactly!!
