Inside bell gap

Post by Erik_Sweden »

Hi all,

When I look down inside the bell I see that there is a 1 mm gap between bottom of the bell and the bottom bow.
Is this normal, or is it something that needs to fix at a tuba workshop ?

I think that is pretty normal; I wouldn't worry about it. 1 mm gap between the bell and bottom bow is a small gap, and should be fine if the ferrule is soldered all around it.

When I fit a new bell to a horn or put one back together that I've had apart for dentwork... I try my best to get a line-to-line fit at ALL of the ferrules including the bell to bottom bow ferrule. That being said.... if a horn came into the shop with a 1mm gap I wouldn't get too excited about it. I see it a lot.
