Rotor Valve Springs

Post by benvas »

I'm currently playing on an old Bill Bell model, and the first valve spring snapped. I called my former teacher, the original owner, and he told me that the springs were made from piano wire. The local repairman here in Austin won't go near it and I'm not sure how much longer this rubber band will hold up. I'm not very handy myself, and really need some help with this.

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

It's just a regular rotor spring, but way thicker and tighter than anything the guy here had. As I mentioned, it's stainless steel piano wire.

Is it a King 'Bill Bell' rotary CC? If so... those springs are wound in place from a single wire on each paddle assembly. I can coach you on how to do it but there aren't any commercial springs available other that stock music/spring wire.

After some serious searching, I found a guy who is a little more inventive and said it shouldn't be a problem. I get the horn back tomorrow, so here's to hoping he did a good job.

BRAVO! I see from the above posts that the offending horn is a MW. NOT a King. That's much less of a challenge that any respectable repairman should be able to handle.
